Backflow Preventers Keep Your Potable Water Supply Safe
Backflow preventers are essential to maintaining a healthy household and landscape. They protect your potable water from pollutants and contaminants, and enable a safe drinking water supply that is free of pesticides, fertilizer, manure and other unsavory elements that would be harmful if consumed. A sprinkler backflow preventer should be installed on every irrigation system that depends on potable water because a pressure decrease in your municipality’s primary water line can cause a type of irrigation backflow known as back-siphonage. Piping that is too small can also lead to this problem. Another form of backflow, called back-pressure, occurs when a pump or injector has been improperly installed and releases more pressure than the water supply. Even a tiny amount of contaminants can pollute your entire water supply.
